Geophysicist

Two words that best describe the RDCL culture?

Challenging, versatile

What’s your most memorable project?

This far (during the winter) all travel across the southern North Island to any field site: seeing snowy Tararuas makes any job memorable. Also doing surface wave tomography in Waipukurau, was pretty neat, trying to locate an actual fault passing through the town.

Which RDCL value is most important to you?

Hard to choose between Courageousness and Whānau: I love that you have opportunity to learn and develop fast, take initiative and charge on projects; same time interact with variety of people between the offices, all with different experience levels and backgrounds, feel accepted and supported as you are.

What do you love about working at RDCL?

Pretty much everything I said already about the 2 best describing words and RDCL values… I love that I can be myself and thrive doing what I was trained to do in Uni, but also apply previously developed skills and life experience. I feel empowered, because this is exactly what I expected/wanted the work to be when I chose my degree.  I love variability in my work. I also love our small crew/office in Wellington.

Where or how do you reset and recharge?

In the nature/outdoors – Type 1 Fun.
If the weather allows, I shoot off to trail run or surf straight out of work in the afternoon, there are impressive trails and a beach right outside our office! I try to commute to work by bike 1-2 times a week to maintain better work-life balance. I do yoga and rock-climbing too – planning to begin to train for ultra-running.
On holidays/long weekends I would rather go to the mountains. I try to go camping combined with climbing, hiking, skiing/snowboarding or surfing. Now that I am not imprisoned by university anymore, I want to pursue/be involved in more alpine & extreme activities.
