Matt’s primary role is to ensure client needs are being met and to improve RDCL internal business systems.  Our business is simple, but our teams are spread and staffing can be complicated.  Mat will look after client and staff needs..</p><p><strong>Guy Boaz, Mining Engineer, Underground Coal specialist, Principal (Westport office)</strong></p><p>Guy is a Mining Engineer with 20 years’ industry experience.  Guy has worked in underground coal mining on the New Zealand West Coast, South Africa and in Queensland, Australia.  Guy was recently confirmed as a Chartered Professional Engineer practicing in the field of Mining Engineering and a Chartered Professional through the AusIMM system. </p><p><strong>Christchurch </strong>office has been strengthened in recognition of our growing workload in CPT investigations in the City, and in the fact that Christchurch is really the most mining centric major center in New Zealand.</p><p><strong>Susan Tulloch, Senior Water Scientist, PhD (Christchurch office)</strong></p><p>Susan joins our Christchurch operation, allowing us to extend our capabilities into water quality management.  Susan has expertise in Integrated Water Management including; policy development, freshwater availability, and stakeholder consultation. </p><p><strong>David Wright, Engineering Geologist (Christchurch office)</strong></p><p>David Wright is an Engineering Geologist and QA/QC and CPT specialist has also joined our Christchurch office in late October.  David is an experienced<br

Together this comprises RDCL’s Downhole Service offering. Downhole Services builds on the strength of our core business, enabling us to provide clients with detailed in-situ measurements and concise vertical integration of data. To support this new service, we have employed Gareth Hay, a Geophysicist and Logging Engineer with five years&#8217; NZ geophysical logging experience.</p><p>These tools are digital, smart, fast and deliver meticulous detail.  We like that!</p><p>ATV services are being developed in conjunction with our partner GXD Exploration &amp; Drilling supplies (<a
href="http://www.gxdsupply.com">www.gxdsupply.com</a>). GXD is a high growth services company based in Manila, backing Philippine mining growth by making significant investment in the acquisition of this leading edge technology. RDCL will supply technical and operating services to support the ATV.</p><p>As far as we understand it, this will be the only ATV based permanently in Asia. Arrives early May.</li><li>Jonathan Garelick, Geotechnical Engineer &#8211; ME (Civil Eng, City of London Uni), 3 years with particular experience in windfarms and waste water. Arrives early May.</li><li>Evangelos Georgopolous, Geotechnical and Mining Engineer- MSc(Design and Construction of Underground Works), 8 years experience in foundations, tunnels, rock reinforcement, stress and displacement analyses and modelling, soil and rock geotechnics.  Arriving June.</li><li>Gareth Hay, Logging Engineer &#8211; BSc(Earth Sciences), 5 years experience geophysical logging in New Zealand.  Joins to support new Acoustic Televiewer services (Downhole Services).</li></ul><p><br

href="http://www.rdcl.co.nz/technical/update-geology-geotechnics-and-new-downhole-services/"> ... read more</a>]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Key indicators FY2010: No LTI&#8217;s (100% Incident Free); 150% increase in turn-over; stronger Geology and Geotechnical Engineering; projects in Southland, Westport, Waikato, Indonesia, Luzon (north Philippines) and Negros (mid-Philippines); 2 x CPT&#8217;s including tria-axial and cordless units and new business developing in Downhole (Geophysical) services.  Very, very busy.</p><p>Safety remains a key focus and priority in all that we do.  We train and supply essential equipment, but still rely very heavily on our people to look after themselves and our project sites.  Our key risks are in fatigue and travel both in New Zealand and in some of our more remote sites abroad.  We work on awareness and support and have this as a constant focus in our professional lives.</p><p>Turn-over has grown through our clients showing their trust in us, our own hard work in developing our markets, and increased activity in the resources sector with some modest improvement also in construction.  We remain heavily committed overseas on active and developing mining projects, and in New Zealand on the same.  We are currently engaged in significant geological drilling and resource work, and also in power and rail opportunities.  We see these sectors as sustainable and strong in the short to medium term, and it is likely that mining will continue to dominate our business.</p><p>CPT testing is improving with the economy and as our reputation grows, and as the market becomes more aware of our services.  In line with our general philosophy, we have invested in CPT and purchased &#8220;cordless&#8221; equipment to help better interface with &#8220;conventional&#8221; drill rigs for pushing.  This is in addition to our tri-axial testing capability which we anticipate will see increased use with the focus on shear wave and seismic testing.</p><p>Amongst all of this, we remain aware that our culture, team work and systems are the key to our innovation and success.  We work on communication and &#8220;connectivity&#8221; while we are scattered throughout our various work sites.</p><p>Finally, we look forward to our new hires joining in May/June (hurry up guys we need you now !).</p><ul><li>David Reynolds, Principle Geologist &#8211; 25 year experienced geologist, ex-South Africa most recently from Harmony.  Particular experience in project evaluation and economic assessment, project management.
