Our hiring has been to strengthen the business which has been running very “tight” over the last 6 months with a burgeoning work load.  We have  hired at a senior level to help ensure service to our existing customers and plug some of the “cracks” that have developed under the strain of our work commitments.  We thank our clients for their indulgence and look forward to an enhanced service offering.

Our projects with key Philippine clients were profiled in a recent edition of The Oceania, ANCHAM’s newsletter.  We are very grateful for our many clients in the Philippines who support and engage RDCL on exciting and complex projects.  This involvement sees us form strong relationships with Philippine based companies and work alongside each other to boost mineral development to the country’s advantage.

Coal

• Project 1 Resource evaluation of a NZ project for off-shore investment.
• Project 2 NZ based coal mining geology, mining engineering, detailed scheduling and geotechnical work for waste placement.

Minerals

• Project 3 Mineral sand resource evaluation in NZ.
• Project 4 Initial scoping study leading to investment in a large copper porphyry deposit in the Philippines.

Testing

• CPT testing in Dunedin, Christchurch and Hawke’s Bay.

Off-shore

• Projects have recently been completed in Melbourne (fast rail) and West Australia (iron ore open pit study). We are also assisting with a tender for a 62 turbine windfarm.

LHTDesign is a structural engineering practice based in Hastings and established in 1974.  LHTDesign’s skills including large span timber and steel structures, energy efficient heating and cooling systems and fire engineering all integrated with careful architectural detailing.

LHTDesign is regarded as leaders in the New Zealand aquatic market with specialist expertise in the design and delivery of large aquatic facilities including council-owned leisure pools, and commercial ‘learn to swim’ and training pools.

Modern communications and sound management systems, means LHTDesign is able to deliver cost effective, practical engineering solutions throughout the Pacific.

The LHTDesign team includes 11 professional engineers and several draughting personnel, backed by a highly efficient front-of-house support team. This effective team structure enables a holistic, integrated design approach to be taken for all its projects.

Surveying The Bay Ltd (STB) (www.surveyingthebay.co.nz) is a company with specialists in land surveying and rural and urban subdivision. Locally owned, and based in Hawke’s Bay, they also perform subdivision engineering design and resource management planning. RDCL provides geotechnical services to STB as part of the execution of some of their land development projects. A close relationship is developing between the two companies. Complex subdivision developments require an integrated team approach and STB sub-contracts specialist service providers to support their clients’ projects.

STB invests heavily in technology, professional development and training. STB owns the latest in survey-accurate GPS technology, and has a permanent base station located on the roof of their building. The “iBase” technology (http://www.ibase.co.nz/) allows surveyors to access the permanent base station anywhere within the regional mobile phone network allowing fast, efficient high accuracy survey measurement. The iBase system is likely to revolutionise the way surveyors do their work and allow contractors greater access and control over their earthworks layouts and monitoring.

The company is passionate about good urban design, and encourages developer clients to incorporate best practice urban design principles in their projects. STB also promotes low impact design to help reduce effects on the environment.

STB senior staff are all Registered Professional and Licensed Cadastral Surveyors, and STB encourages professional registration of their surveyors generally. They also have a senior planner who is a member of the NZ Planning Institute. The company is actively involved with the NZ Institute of Surveyors and Consulting Surveyors of NZ and has staff representing the surveying industry at local Council review panels.

RDCL works with and supports GRM for their mining and civil projects and a close working relationship is evolving.  For our part, RDCL sees Asia as critical to the growth of the company, and our working there builds on the long established track record we already have in the region.  We will continue to focus our business development on Indonesia and actively seek opportunities where we can apply our skills.

Simon Ballantyne is the Managing Director of GRM and is an expatriate Kiwi with roots in Christchurch.  Simon established the business in late 2008 after approximately 12 years in Jakarta as Country Manager for a previous geotechnical firm.  Simon is an excellent engineer, is intimate with Indonesia and really knows how to work there – something that accounts for about 80% of the project success in our experience.
